perhaps you could quote where I stated that Germans didn't like American food?

Sure, Americans aren't prevalent here and Aldi and other businesses target the Germans and other locals. I agree. As it turns out, many Germans and others like American stuff.
Well I would say 90% of the Germans I know do not. They do enjoy Mexican, Italian, or Indian food . Maybe it is a deep down unconcious disdain for anything from the English speaking world. Dunno. I have traveled a bit in my time and of the Germans I that I have eaten dinner with on the road most have no desire to go to an american style cuisine. Unless you consider Hawaiian american style which I do not. That is just my experience.

Now after saying that there is a local American style diner her in Regensburg which does very well but if it has regular clients I do not know. Cheese sticks were crappier than a Chili's version.

Where the hell are all the KFC's? I have never seen one. Also I have heard KFC is horrible here and that they sell burgers and hotdogs, not the traditional chicken and fixings.
There's one about 20 or so minutes from me.
This one does sell the chicken and sides, none that i know of have butter biscuits, and they are terribly overpriced.
It's cheaper to eat at Mickey D's.

For the record I have had a few pints with Herr OG and watched American football together. Not that we held hands and looked into each other's eyes and what not. Still he did watch American football. Do not tell anyone though.

I'm sorry, did I put it in quotes? Please realize that I wasn't thinking of you when I made that statement.

Someone earlier did take offense at Aldi putting crap in red, white and blue wrappers and calling it American. My point was and is that there are many people here who will buy it because they think it is American. Look at all the Harley stores and "American Indian" stores selling turquoise jewelry and all of that.

Chill out. We are talking about a sale at Aldi and I agreed with what you said. Put your energy into a nice, cold beer or something.

Um yea, that someone would be me.
Hello ... I bought one box of the spare ribs and concluded that they were crap, so sue me. The rib-eyes I can get at any local butcher, the pancakes are a hot manufactured mess.
The difference of cheap vs. orginal quality is the entire point, and the reason why I would never suggest anyone i know bother with these 'sales'.
It's trully YMMV
I don't drink beer ... but a smooth, ice cold Pina Colada always tastes good on hot day.

you mean you#d rather not use your noggin before posting
No ...
I mean using my noggin to save others from possibly wasting their money ... or realizing that some of this stuff needs to be HEAVILY seasoned before eating.
I could be saving someone time and energy.
That's a pretty smart thing to post.

I don't know why some of you are attacking Kitty_Kat. All she was doing was expressing her opinion about the Alid American week. Is that a crime? The stuff that they have is not authentic and it is catered towards the Germans and not about Americans, sadly the Germans will eat this and think this is what we like to eat, I guess it's frustrating as an American when you can't shop and buy anything that you are used to from back home and when someone says something like "American Week" you get all excited thinking you will find things....FYI plenty of these African/International stores do carry many of the things that we use in the states, I know that's the only place i've seen Heinz baked beans before. I'm gonna hit up every international store and find some Ranch somwehere.

Oh and about the Pizza with pineapple, I'd say that's very American, Have you guys ever had the Hawaiian pizza from Pizza Hut, it comes with Pineapple, and ham. It actually tastes great, I didn't eat it with the Ham but it still tasted great.

you got a link?, are they selling any relish?.
Who does sell (besides the Comm) the stuff here?

I actually had the "American" spare ribs for lunch today...

They (whatever German company is hocking their food as American) really need to step it up a notch, they absolutely sucked. No flavor, bland as a bean .. despite being labelled as 'bbq' but easy enough to warm heating only a few minutes in the oven.
No they do not. They are not catering to Americans they are applying marketing strategy to Germans and their tastes.

I see your point of view, but we as American are just as hypercritical. Do you think our American chinese or even American Thai food is traditional. How about Tex Mex? Far from it. While we do have many traditional restaurants as well, the majority are created for the American palate. The same is true here.
I can travel to Flushing, NY and get authentic Chinese, Thai, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese or to Jackson Heights, NY to get Indian cuisine which is made to like it would be in the home country since there are so many people from those ethnic backgrounds living in those areas of NYC. Like every place "it is buyer beware" know the quality of the establishments preparation. Zagat is a great reference for this type of item.

Well hell I am not picky.

You guys don't like it more for me.

And any extra you got headed for the trash bin send my way.

Guess life as a starving student made me less picky. (Note: this does not apply to the raw, pickled, or just plain gross meat I have seen here such as rotwurst now that I will not touch)

I am appreciative for what I can get here. Hell even top Ramen makes me smile as it reminds me of home.

Be happy for the little things you can get and less critical, it was you who moved here, they need not accommodate your standards. (note you is universal and not directed at an individual)

I got a kick out of finding the American section in the Ethnic Foods Section at Real. Pretty funny.

The popcorn shrimp aren't bad. 15 minutes at 220° in the oven on either a British chip baking sheet or a normal baking pan with Backpapier gives pretty good results (need to turn over halfway through cooking). The cranberry drink is, like the cheap crap at V-Markt, only 13% cran-juice and a fuckton of sweetener: avoid. I had to explain to some Krauts that no American ever eats those "donuts", the batter-mix for which sits right next to cheap-ass German-style electric "donut" cookers. The hot dog rolls have to be sliced open: they're too wide and too dry.

Rather unlikely that people here are going to set up some sort of trade with an unknown person who just signed up today. You're no more likely to send me the cash in advance to buy you a load of Weißwurst (which will be confiscated by the Dept of Ag in the US anyway) and I don't see you sending me a case of Lucky Charms and Orville Reddenbacher Light Butter having never met me.

woof.

I was bad the other day there at Aldi . Some poor German was shopping next to me. In my excitement over finding cheap tortillas looked over to him and said "What up motha fucka!". He dropped what he had and scurried one aisle over. Dont judge me!
