Sweet jesus, it's roasting hot in Berlin right now. Yesterday and today have been almost unbearable to walk about in, so I've opted to chill out on the balcony.
How are you all coping in this heat?

I was at Bread & Butter yesterday, wandering around with thousands of other people in jeans, long sleeved shirt and heavy leather shoes on the tarmac of Templehof. Feck I was swimming in sweat.

If you're calling this hot you would have ended up taking a dirt nap during some of Adelaide's recent heat waves. Two to three straight weeks of 45 degree days, THAT'S hot. Last year my wife landed into one of these from an icy Berlin winter, with jet lag no less and no airconditioning in our house: she almost slipped into a coma.
Admittedly, it's a little warm but I think the definition of hot hit a new meaning at the Limpwrist show at Köpi the other night. It's the only time I've ever taken my shirt off at a show, since I was in danger of passing out. My camera lens almost totally fogged over. Hardcore punk sauna. Hell yes.

Oh dear, Summer in Berlin is going to be even more depressing than I thought.... *sigh*
(for the record, I moved to Berlin from Italy 3 months ago and have found the weather rather underwhelming so far)

mark, how much humidity did your adelaide summer see?
I'd say we're more steaming than roasting here in Berlin.
I have to wear long pants and proper shoes for work... it's a killer on foot... today I think I'll ride my bike, at least I'll get a breeze

you will find the ppl suffering the most are the inselaffen like myself who just arent used to such temperatures!
after several summers i have become accustomed though, like i'm sure the others will.

This is more like it ... I am used to Singapore's summer-all-year-round-weather when it is 32 degrees celsius daily and it never changes U guys don't even have the humidity Singapore has which can be high as 90% ;P This is what we call sizzling hot. Unlike here, all offices and buildings and nearly every home there are air-conditioned, even the buses and the cabs ... we even air-conditioned a whole street
Haha, I think I like the air-conditioning a bit too much ... that's why I moved to Berlin ...

I work in a factory, loads of heat from the machines, long pants and long sleeves required. Even with all doors and windows wide open, it's still like an oven. Then again, I also worked in a shop in Canada that was like an oven every summer but at least we could wear shorts and t-shirts there.
I am definitely not good with heat. Worst summer I've survived was in Toronto. It got to some 37 degrees and they kept reporting this humidex which apparently is the equivalent of the humid 37 in dry heat which was supposedly something like 47. People were fainting in the street and they were warning people without a/c to spend some time in malls. I would sit in my boxers in front of a fan with a wet wash cloth on my head thinking I would surely die. After that, nothing seems too bad anymore

I was in Berlin on Friday and Sunday and it was so sultry.
Yesterday, I took a boat ride on the Spree at noon and that was a big mistake as I had nothing to shield my face from the sun and I had left my sunscreen at home.
After the boat ride I ended up walking from the Pergamon Museum to KaDeWe which is about 5 miles. So today I'm a toasty looking brown. I was glad it rain about 6:30 yesterday to cool it off some.
When I left Berlin this morning it was full sun.

Yeah, it's definately more humid here than in Adelaide ... during heat waves over there, there's hardly any humidity at all, just a delightful searing with hot, dry wind. Super.

I'm also working in a Berlin office with no air conditioning, and this office was only built last year! What were they thinking!?

And yet, on the Regional & S-Bahn, the windows remain closed. As ever.
It is not nice getting onto an aging, battered regional in this weather and hitting a wall of hot, oxygen-deprived, BO filled air.
A note to all Germans...open.the.god.damn.windows.

Just count the number of days in the year where A/C is really needed. Probably the fingers on two hands suffice...

Yes you have air conditioning in most, 'English', offices and more people sniveling, sick and generally unwell than you would have in a German office.

You HAVE to be kidding me?!!!
The amount of time off for 'sickness' that the Germans have is unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. Literally weeks at a time. They go to the doctor on a Monday with an issue, get signed off for a week/2 weeks, go home and relax for the maximum time they can get off. One guy just had 3 weeks holiday & an extra 2 weeks off 'sick'.
So don't give me that nonsense!

Point is Germans don't come in and infect half the entire staff. Makes economic sense at the end of the day.

Anyone ever watch that show 'Look Around You', especially the episode about germs?
"First off, let us look at where germs come from. Germs, come from Germany ..."
That show was responsible for the cracking of several of my ribs.

One person "sick" for 2 weeks at home it is better than 10 people sick for 1 or 2 days.

I can't fault your logic. However, "feeling out of sorts" or "a bit iffy" rarely results in the infection of large numbers of staff. Face it, Germans are wimps!!!

a/c in Dubai is everywhere. and its on continuously. in the house in the bedroom in the bathroom in the car in the office in restaurant. no, they haven't build it one in the sidewalk outside yet. i think is just a question of time...

I do trust about the sidewalk a/c. really! they've already made it on the beach. so it is really a question of time...
