Corset-making course in Munich

Date to be decided, anyone interested?

MissGem
Hey all in Munich!!

I am teaching a Learn how to make Corsets course in Berlin at the moment and I had a lady ask me if there is any chance in me coming to Munich to teach and I think this would be really cool!! However I would need to know if any one was really interested in that and also could recommend somewhere were we could hold the course...(We would need some sewing machines and an iron!)

Please let me know if anyone is interested and I will see about arranging it!

Thanks

I think its very interesting. I remember seeing the thread about it in Berlin and thinking it was great.

But the other thing that immediately came to mind was 'how much does it cost?'. So, can you give an idea of the cost please?

Good luck with this!
Carm
would love to partake, depending on when it happens,
LadyofLeisure
This could be a lot of fun for me!!! Of course it depends when and how much. :-)
I look forward to hearing more details!

I'm also interested as PM'd
MissGem
Oh that's fabulous to see some interest!!

The course in Berlin costs 180 euros and that includes the inside materials like the bust (the clasping object at the front that closes the corset), the metal bones, eyelets and lacing and the three other layers of fabric, all I ask you to buy extra is the outside fabric so that its more to the individual taste! And also I usually pay the rent for the shop too where I have about 9 sewing machines. So it would still be depending on how much rent I have to pay for the shop or a space with sewing machines.

And I was thinking a week in August would be nice!

So would I have some definite candidates so I can look in to organizing it? Think I would need a minimum of 6.

Oh here is a link to what one of my students made in class:

Thanks!

I might be interested depending on exactly when and how long each class is - the newborn's going to be a little inconvenient but I do love my corsets.
MissGem
Well I would really have to find a place to do it, unless someone has an apartment where I could hire the sewing machines and set that up for a week? and if someone knows a hire shop for sewing machines? In Berlin we have sewing cafes, is there anything like that in Munich?

It would be for 18 hours altogether, but I usually go over that to help people out! Or if your a really experienced sewer then it can probably be completed in less time than that!

I was thinking if everything goes to plan and I get a place sorted maybe Monday 3rd August - Saturday 8th August? 3 hours a day, Does that work?

Carm
darn, that week is really no good for me. But I would be interested if you did come back and do a course. Looks really interesting.

@MissGem
Not really interested in learning to make corsets, but who's the cutie in the black/white corset in your above post?
MissGem
or Monday 17th- Saturday 22nd August??
g24
Yes, that's a better date! My only free week in August!

When you say 3 hours a day, do you mean during the daytime? This doesn't work that well with a full time job (although I'm pretty sure I'm about to lose mine!)
llees
That's probably too much time for me, but I hope it goes well and that some of these ladies will be making corsets to order later on...
koala
I'd love to join you, but August doesn't suit me at all - but just a suggestion, wouldn't an intensive (6 or eight hour a day) weekend course make more sense (or two weekends with a week of free time for you in the middle) - it might be more accessible for people with full time jobs and increase the numbers to make it worth your while.
Bron
What sort of sewing ability do you have to have for this course? I'm not here in August, but if there was another one in the future I might be interested.
LadyofLeisure
I'm still interested but August doesn't suit me (currently 36 weeks pregnant) and also feel that others would not be able to attend due to summer holiday and work commitments....
Perhaps September/October would be better...weekdays or weekends both suit me.
llees
LadyofLeisure - I'm about as pregnant as you. We could bring our infants and let them hang out while we do more important things!

There is a shop called Quilt und Textilkunst in Munich that often hosts artists who want to give courses. They have a classroom with lots of sewing machines. You might try contacting them.

T hat is a really good idea actually so I could just teach it in a few days rather than over a week!! I still dont have a place to run it yet so I was just throwing ideas around to get some responses and ideas from you all, so thank you for your ideas!

@DNH thank you for suggesting that place I will contact them!

I was also thinking of renting a flat and maybe renting some sewing machines too...that's an idea!

Hehe and kids are welcome as long as they don't go by the iron!! but they will be new borns so I suppose they will be sleeping in their prams?

@koala: good idea with a weekend, does that suit people better?
@buffy: sorry to hear about your job maybe this is something to cheer you up and you get a beautiful corset at the end of it!!
@Bron: Sewing experience I would ask you to have a little experience. Loads of expereince is not nesseccary because I can help and guide you but at least know how to use the sewing machine!
@lady of leisure: I am hoping to be doing an internship in Italy in September - end of November! So I wont be able o do it then, I thought it would be a nice little summer project, but really cool you and llees both have babies on the way congratulations!! Hehe and kids are welcome as long as they don't go by the iron!!

I'd come if it was over a weekend!
MissGem
I sent an email to the quiltundtextilkunst place but they said they can't help! Anymore suggestions please?

I would LOVE to do this! But like a lot of people I am away from 15-23 August for summer holiday, otherwise I'd definitely be interested out side of then.

I did 4 years of sewing at school and used to make my own clothes but haven't sewn for years, would a super quick, 5 min reminder on using a sewing machine be ok? Just need to trigger the old knowledge...

Look forward to the course!
MissGem
Does the end of July suit anyone?

I am still looking for a place to hold it tho
