Which ferry route takes big transit vans? - Germany

Ferry crossing with large van

shallnotgrumble
We need to move a transit van's worth of stuff over to Niedersachsen some time this summer and when I've been looking on ferry websites but some don't seem to offer crossings for vans (I'm hoping to bring a transit van/Sprinter type van over with our most treasured stuff). Do any of you know which route would be good for us? I am not fussed about how far I have to drive as I'm up in the back of beyond in Scotland so it'll be far anyway!

Try Norfolk LIne from Dover to Dunkerque.

Most of the ferry routes cater for articulated lorries and list prices for every type of road vehicle and trailer or caravans too.
The Dover-Calais route with loads of huge ferries has the advantage that there are crossings very regularly. This means that, except at peak times, you can often turn up and get on the next boat or the one after. You can get a ticket beforehand or at the port when you arrive. Its not beneficial to book a place on a given ferry at a given time, as you will usually turn up early so as not to miss it, which costs you more time. And you don't want to miss it either.

Can't you take the tunnel? Plenty of big lorries make that trip.

Thanks everyone, that's great if I book as campervan then I can atleast get prices and compare. I think as I want to get to Hannover it might be a good idea to go over to Amsterdam or Holland somewhere. Coming from Scotland the tunnel would have been my last choice but would still consider it as I could drive down over night to avoid traffic. I've had bad experience of sitting in traffic jams for hours down south.

Also an option, trying to get it all sent as a Beiladung if I can find an offer.

have you had a bad experience with them? we've used em loads of times and were always happy.
cheaper than P&O and the Frenchie company too.

DFDS Newcastle-Amsterdam would seem an obvious choice - saves a fair bit of driving, and certainly a transit van wasn't a problem not that long ago (from memory it was just booked as a normal slightly over-height vehicle - need to check the length and height of whichever van you're using though and pay accordingly).

I think DFDS is the best option and good to know they do take large vans. Somehow I was put off on the website as only cars and caravans came up but obviously caravan size would be about the transit van size I would need. I should maybe ask on here to see if anyone knows about Beiladungen. I found one on here on an old thread so have emailed to get a quote and possible dates. Would be good if someone is going back over to Germany with an empty or half empty van or lorry.

Another alternative, with less driving, is P&O from Hull to Rotterdam.
