Hey, thanks for your help chaps and chapettes!
I was thinking of two things.
1) Going to Hamburg for two days and then to Berlin for two days.
2) Just going to Berlin.
If I take choice "2", is four days overdoing it a little? I know the size of Berlin is large - but would you recommend four or two days in the capital? Before you ask, I wanted to see some of the sights, go to a couple of museums, perhaps a gig... a club... drink a bit...
So, my question - what would you do?
And, lastly, is there a good Berlin listings website for concerts and gigs you can recommend?
Cheers, and all the best.

I'd say 2 days is enough for what you outline. Just drink beer and avoid the half day hangover and you'll be fine. Berlin is big but doesn't feel like that because the transport is so good. You'll want a day ticket for that. There's a listings site somewhere...hang on I'll skype the GF (she knows it)...

for concerts try:

Normally, 2 days is very short for berlin (I'd recommend one week for whole berlin). you're able to do the basic sights, maybe one club and one or two museums.
but it of course all depends on what you want, Hamburg gets also my recommendation.

You need months to see Berlin in it's extreems, madness and beauty. Take four days in Berlin, first day official site seeing... all the stuff like the bunker, Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Bable Platz, TV Tpwer, beer garten, chill. Second day see the other side of berlin like the galleries and street art, beer gartens in places you would never normally go ending up in Kreutzberg for some bar hopping, three up to Potsdam with a picnic and a load of beer in a cool box to explore the park and the old royal palaces. Day four chill on the river visit a few museums on the famous island and eat great german food before going to see a great concert in the evening then heading out to the clubs if you still have energy.
If any of this sounds attractive, that's Berlin. I'd love to show you round myself but I know a guy who takes people round for very reasonable rates and it's a lot of fun. I send my clients to him. PM me and I'll pass on the details. Hamburg can be done in a day but is not in any way to be compared to Berlin. Best
