Yeah, what is with that? I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night about 3 weeks ago and thought a helicopter was about to land on our building it was so loud. I was away for a couple of weeks and now have jet lag, but I think I heard one on either Saturday or Sunday night. I definitely heard one last night at 1am! It woke me up! I don't understand how my boyfriend sleeps through it when I think we are about to be crashed into by some crazy helicopter pilot flying low in the middle of the night. What are they doing? I live next to Theresienwiese if that helps, not quite next to the Isar.

I've noticed lots of helis landing on theresienwiese lately too, either they are using it as a pickup point to transfer severely injured people to helicopters or doing some training manoeuvres.

Saw that very thing on Saturday morning. Chopper swooped in and transferred a stretcher to a waiting ambulance.

But, in the middle of the night?
Keydeck
Sure, whether it's training or a real situation it could be day or night.

They also use the helis when looking for lost people who need immediate help (elderly or handycapped most of the time) or their medication. Sending a heli covers loads of backyards at the same time and their IR-cameras work much better in the dark than any police squad on the ground.

That makes sense I guess. I just hadn't heard them before until the end of May, though I've only been living in this apartment since March. They seem so frequent as well.

According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung the police were looking for a criminal sighted in the area but didn't find him. They got lots of complaints from the neighbors, though.

Maybe twice a month, the police helicopters fly around Pfaffenhofen really slow... If I had to guess, I'd say they were following a car in traffic. Because they kind of fly around the city in the general shape of the roads, and hover in one place for a while (Stop light) and then continue. Pretty weird. And when they arrive and depart it is always following one of the main roads... and they fly about the speed of traffic.. much slower than a helicopter could fly if they just wanted to follow the highway down to Munich or something.

I live 1/2 way between Munich and Ingolstadt, and up by Ingolstadt there is a military airport... and every now and then we get fighter jets just SCREAMING through town. Sometimes 1, sometimes 2, sometimes they are chasing each other. It is crazy loud.

The coolest thing I ever saw was two fighter jets (each a different type) flying in an impossibly tight circle. Over and over, round and round, high speed, just so close to each other you wouldn't believe it. And it was right above where I was living at the time (15 minutes north of Pfaffenhofen). I tried to take some video... didn't really work, they were moving too fast, and even the audio was hosed because it was too loud for the camera. I wonder if the second jet was filming the first, or if it was some comparative manuverability test.

Stop complaining, y'all. I live pretty much right next to most of the city's hospitals as well as the rescue helicopter landing pad. The upside is, if I ever manage to injure myself at home I get to choose between two hospitals that are each about 3 minutes walking distance from my house.

But, in the middle of the night?
I forgot people don't get injured at night!

Haha, funny - I've seen the same helicopter over Berg am Laim a couple of weeks ago. They flew there for about half an hour or so @ apprx 11pm. Doesn't look like police, doesn't look like a rescue helicopter ... so anyone knows what they're up to :-) ??

I cam ehere hoping someone could tell me what is up with all the helicopters today (Sunday 27) and yesterday (sat 26). It started pretty early this morning and it continues. At first I thought tourist who want to fly over Oktoberfest, but what would be the point at 6 am? Then I thought maybe drunkards needed to be lifted to hospitals asap from Wiesn and the roads are too full around there so they have to be helicoptered... But still at 6 in the morning?? It hasn't really stopped either.
