Day trips from Berlin to Poland by car

Recommended destinations and routes

stumbellina
Hi,
I have access to the boy's BMW while he is off on a motorbike tour in Italy, and have been dying to see Poland a little, as it is where my great-grandparents are from.. Therefore I figure a short daytrip is in order.

I am having trouble narrowing down destinations or areas...Does anyone have any recommendations?

I tend to be more interested in nature and scenic beauty than the cities, although I wouldn't mind doing a little shopping if it is as cheap as I have heard. I am also leaning towards forest-y or green areas, as I will leaving only 5 days later to spend 2 weeks on the beaches of the Côte d'Azur...But basically, I am pretty open to anything, as long as it is reasonable to do in one long day.

Thank you!!

How many hours do you plan to drive? Poland is a big country and you have to decide if its a 2 or 10 hour trip to destination.

sorry, just reread your entry and realize it's a short daytrip:0

How about the island Wolin, east from Szczecin. It's not only seaside but beautiful national park, with lots of forests, lakes and wildlife

Is anybody interested in going on the train again again, with a Brandenburg ticket?

Would the train not end up taking half a day with the changes, the Brandenburg Ticket and the fact it's a weekend? Just wondering what the plan would be.

I dont think it takes that long, there has been a group trip from here already. Perhaps the folk who went on the trip can advise further?

I'm heading to Wroclaw on the train on Friday. I'll make a report when I get back but it's certainly too far for a day trip, however I might see a nice place on the way...

Try the Ostwall Bunkers and Bat Reserve:

It is fascinating! The Nazis Germans planned a huge system of underground tunnels and bunkers back when this was German territory. They "only" bilt about 30 kilometers worth.

You can tour the bunkers and (hopefully) see some resident bats.

I went along last time on the trip to Szczecin - not the prettiest of cities but definately worth the trip. It took about two hours from Gesundbrunnen, with one change at Angermünde (direct train coming back), and we did use the Brandenburg ticket, so very cheap for five of us.

Blog post by Serenissima on the trip here http://auftakt.blogspot.com/2009/04/pierogi-and-starka.html

and some photos by me here http://www.jwoodhouse.com/search/folder_sh...land&page=1

I'd keep meaning to make another trip back, just to get some pics of the castle and eat more pierogis, so may be up for joining a trip.
