Uniform?? Kit my friend, kit.
No, there is no need for Americans to affect Britishisms when we have our own perfectly good terms for things. It's pathetic and demonstrates an insecurity when Americans start talking about the pitch, the kit, and boots when playing football. I've grown up in the US and have spent my life playing and watching soccer on a field wearing a uniform and soccer shoes. And I never felt that I had immitate British English to do so.
As for the game, it was at least better than our last two qualifiers, but then every team looks good against Italy, but yet they always win. That's just how Italy plays. But the game still demonstrates that Bradley is inflexable and simply not up to the job. Altidore is not, never has been, and never will be any good playing as a lone striker. Playing a two defensive mid "empty bucket" formation against a team that anyway is willing to concede possession is nonesense and denies us any effective way of linking up the field. Hoofing long balls at the head of a man who is clearly not a target striker and who anyway has nobody playing off him will not work, and neither will playing long (poorly executed) diagonal balls to wingers who are unable to track them down. The only time we looked at all decent was when Donovan slid into the middle of the field to give some service, but it sure would have been a lot better to have Adu or Torres doing that right from the start with Donovan playing next to Altidore.
If Bradley's coaching at the World Cup (and there is no reason to believe he won't be), it'll be another three and out with at best one point. But at least Mexico is in even worse shape.
Next up: what I think will be a surprisingly close loss to Brazil followed by an ass-kicking from Egypt.
