Cafe Kult - Mannheim

Cafe Kult, in Schwetzingervorstadt in Mannheim, is a great place to go for a quick breakfast or just to sit, sip a delicious coffee and read the newspaper. They have a pretty extensive, yet dynamic lunch/dinner menu starting at 5,50€, including all sorts of crepes and waffles.

My Saturday breakfast (yogurt and fresh fruit, 2 slices of toast and butter plus a cafe latte) set me back a mere 6€. I managed a cozy sit on comfy window-side bench, having a 4-person table to myself, but only because I was there at 10.30 a.m. But once the place fills up, cozy becomes cramped. Like too many people in your living room. And if 2 or more persons light up a smoke, you'll be out of there quick. It gets smoky quickly.

The restaurant itself is small and although the tables are spaciously arranged, their bistro-sizes leave barely enough table-top room for 2 to dine. When two tables are put together for a party of 4 and you have to share your space, be prepared to have every word unwittingly heard.

Cafe Kult is open, I believe, from 9-22 during the weekday, 10-23 on the weekend, except Sunday (10-22).

Just adding a note, smoking is prohibited now in Baden-Württemberg, so every restaurant is now smoke free.

They now have a separated smoking area. so both smokers and non smokers don't disturb each other.

As read from the internet, we went there with great expectations. But we found nothing special about this cafe. Ordinary. Stay at home, buy some marmalades and cheese in small plastic packages, would be better and cheaper.

You're right. If you want a cheap breakfast (anywhere for that matter), stay at home. If you want quality, be prepared to pay for it. No one said Kaffee Kult was pretending to be any more than a nice little cafe in the middle of the Schwetzingerstadt.
